FRANCESCA FERGUSON (UK) Jornalist and Curator
CURATING AND COMMUNICATING ARCHITECTURE

Francesca Ferguson is a journalist, curator and the initiator of Urban Drift, an international network for contemporary issues in architecture and urbanism. (www.urbandrift.org). Since 1999, Urban Drift has organised trans-disciplinary exhibitions, conferences, symposia and workshops that reflect upon architectural themes in the light of economic and social developments. Curator for architecture and urbanism, based in Basel and Berlin, since September 2006, she is the new director of S AM. In 1989, she worked in Berlin as Associate Producer at ABC News Network TV. She covered German re-unification and the political changes taking place in Eastern Europe. From 1992 onwards, she worked freelance as a journalist in Asia, the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe for Channel 4, TF 1, BBC 2 and Spiegel TV, amongst others. Returning to Berlin, the focus of her work shifted to the curatorial field. After a brief stint as curatorial assistant at the Kunst-Werke Berlin, she co-organised the "Club Berlin" at the Biennale in Venice. In the years that followed, curated interdisciplinary projects for the House of World Cultures in Berlin, the Gramercy Art Fair in New York, worked as curatorial assistant for the Media and Architecture Biennale Artimage in Graz, amongst others, and was responsible for the Berlin gallery program for the Academy Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. In 2004, she curated the exhibition DEUTSCHLANDSCAPE, a photographic panorama on Germany's urban peripheries, for the 9th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale. Her latest exhibition, TALKING CITIES - the micropolitics of urban space - is part of ENTRY2006, an international Forum for Architecture and Design at Zeche Zollverein in Essen, Germany (www.talkingcities.net). It features international design, architecture and spatial interventions in a trans-disciplinary exhibition and event platform.

Francesca Ferguson é jornalista, curadora e impulsionadora da Urban Drift, uma rede internacional para questões relacionadas com a arquitectura e o urbanismo contemporâneos (www.urbandrift.org). Desde 1999, Urban Drift organizou exposições, conferências, simpósios e workshops trans-disciplinares, que reflectem sobre temas da arquitectura à luz de desenvolvimentos económicos e sociais. Curadora de arquitectura e urbanismo, sediada em Basileia e Berlim desde Setembro de 2006, Francesca Ferguson é Directora do S AM.. Em 1989, trabalhou em Berlim como Produtora Associada na ABC News Network TV. Fez a cobertura da re-unificação da Alemanha e das mudanças políticas que tiveram lugar na Europa de Leste. A partir de 1992, trabalhou como jornalista independente na Ásia, União Soviética e Europa de Leste para o Channel 4, TF1, BBC2 e Spiegel TV, entre outros. Regressou a Berlim, onde se voltou para trabalho curatorial. Foi Assistente Curatorial no Kunst-Werke em Berlim e co-organisou o "Club Berlin" na Bienal de Veneza. Desde essa altura, tem feito curadoria de projectos interdisciplinares para a House of World Cultures em Berlim, a Gramercy Art Fair em Nova Yorque, trabalhou como assistente curatorial para a Bienal de Media e Arquitectura, Artimage em Graz, entre outras coisas, e foi também responsável pelo programa de Berlim para a Academy Schloss Solitude em Estugarda. Em 2004 foi curadora da exposição DEUTSCHLANDSCAPE, um panorama fotográfico das periferias urbanas da Alemanha, para a 9th International Architecture Exhibition, Bienal de Veneza. A sua última exposição TALKING CITIES, a micropolítica do espaço urbano, foi parte de ENTRY2006, um fórum internacional para Arquitectura e Design no Zeche Zollverein em Essen, Alemanha (www.talkingcities.net). Design, arquitectura e intervenções espaciais internacionais são englobados numa exposição trans-disiciplinar e numa plataforma de eventos.
